Rajini Plays His Age: Lesson For Other Seniors

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer released in theaters today and it has garnered decent reviews from critics and common audience alike.

Almost everyone who has watched the film has one thing to say – Rajini perfectly played his age.

Rajini’s characterization right from the outset is carefully designed and presented. There are no over-the-top scenes that are usually seen in commercial films of senior stars.

The opening fight is presented in a simple yet effective manner and it sets the right expectations for what is to come. There are no physics-defying stunts or body doubles in the film.

There are shortcomings on the story and narrative front, but as far as Rajini’s presentation goes, it is near spotless.

Usually, when senior stars do commercial films, there is extensive usage of deaging and also over the top fights to elevate heroism. None of these are incorporated in Jailer and this in itself, gives a new look Rajini to the audience.

Perhaps, the senior stars in Tollywood, namely Chiranjeevi, Balayya, Nagarjuna, and Venkatesh could take cue from this and do roles that are more aligned with their age. The audience have already seen them in commercial potboilers and it is about time they show their new facet, like the way Rajini did with Jailer.
