Journo salaries depends on their social media!

A leading media group reportedly came up with a new policy according to which the salaries of the journalists will be based on their social media presence. The journalists are instructed to join specialized WhatsApp groups to share breaking news updates and make sure they do at least three WhatsApp alerts, three “online-first” stories and minimum three tweets per working day.

In case they do not do, that will result in journalists getting a reduced target variable pay (TVP). This was reportedly to inculcate the habit of social media presence their journalists. The media group was trying to induce its staff to social media for a long time but they did not take it serious and so it was added to the pay scale policy.

Social media like Facebook and Twitter are fully changing the ways news are received and spread. Most of the times, traditional media groups are falling behind social media in delivering breaking news.
