Day 1 BO: Decent Start, But More Needed!

The theatrical market is challenging today. Bringing audiences to theatres in large numbers has become difficult. The latest film trying its luck is Kaantha starring Dulquer Salmaan and Bhagyashree Borse.

The film released in theatres on November 14. Early estimates indicate the kind of opening day numbers it managed to achieve.

The film opened to mixed reviews. This resulted in moderate day one collections at the box office.

Initial reports state that this Dulquer Salmaan film could collect about Rs 4 crore nett across India. This is a decent start for a film in a non mainstream genre.

The film attracted class audiences in fair numbers. This helped the revenues. The lack of mass appeal is clear but the makers were open about their genre choice and seemed aware of the risks.

At the United States box office, Kaantha is estimated to have collected around $38K. This is a slow start and the film must build momentum through the weekend in overseas markets.

While the start is decent, the film must hold well over the weekend to post strong overall revenues.
