Trailer Talk: Disastrous

A final theatrical leading to the release is very crucial in current times. It sets the expectation on the movie and also helps in the openings. The makers of Kaappaan (Bandobast in Telugu) have gravely erred on that count.

The latest theatrical trailer of Kaappaan featuring actors like Suriya, Mohan Lal, and Arya hits all the wrong notes. The official cut is anything but impressive. It is all over the place and tacky. The various songs mixed with the action and blast visuals make it feel like never-ending when one watches it the first time.

The presence of a large cast and director KV Anand give hope. But, the expectations would be lowered to the minimum thanks to this trailer. Suriya is going through a rough phase as a star commercially. If this trailer impression is anything to go by, it might continue even after the release.

However, in the past, we have had few films which failed to deliver a proper trailer despite having ample content. One hopes for the sake of Suriya and everyone involved that is the case here.
