Double Release Weekend: 1 Blockbuster & 1 Disaster

Kalyani Priyadarshan, daughter of veteran Malayalam filmmaker Priyadarshan, began her acting journey in Telugu cinema. She made her debut opposite Akhil Akkineni in Hello and found her first commercial success with Sai Dharam Tej’s Chitralahari. After Sharwanand’s Ranarangam failed, she gradually shifted focus to Malayalam films.

This weekend turned out to be a milestone in her career, with two contrasting releases arriving almost simultaneously. The first, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, is a fantasy drama with superhero undertones. The film opened to encouraging reviews, with critics emphasizing that it is a grand spectacle best experienced in theaters. Although the Telugu version had a delayed release, audience in Hyderabad turned out in decent numbers.

Her second release, Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira, was very different. Despite Fahadh Faasil leading the cast, its love triangle failed to engage audiences. Critics found it tedious, pointing to weak drama and poor emotional depth. Viewers too showed little interest, leaving its collections disappointing.

For Kalyani Priyadarshan, this weekend became a story of extremes. One film is set to become a blockbuster in Malayalam while the other slipped away without leaving much impact. The contrast highlights the unpredictable nature of stardom and audience response.
