L2 Empuraan Turns Headache for Netflix

Netflix continues to maintain its unique approach in the OTT space, not just in India but worldwide. With an ever-growing viewership, the platform ensures a steady supply of films and web series across multiple languages, making it a top choice for streaming enthusiasts.

One key aspect of Netflix’s strategy is its strict content review process. While acquiring digital rights for films, it ensures that controversial dialogues or sequences are either muted or altered before streaming.

There are many controversies regarding Netflix that it promotes woke content. But the truth is that Netflix takes extra measures to avoid controversies and cater to a global audience without legal troubles.

This approach was evident with the recent blockbuster Thandel, where Netflix ensured a filtered version was available for streaming.

Now, all eyes are on how it handles Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to Lucifer, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film faced censorship issues post-theatrical release, with the board suggesting 24 cuts, leading to a slight reduction in runtime.

While some fans expected Netflix to stream the original, uncut version, reports suggest that the platform will opt for the trimmed version, maintaining its policy of avoiding legal risks. Given past instances, this move doesn’t come as a surprise.

But streaming censored content might reduce viewership numbers. Netflix has paid a fancy amount to acquire Empuraan, as it is the most expensive and hyped Malayalam film in recent times. But the recent controversies have turned into a headache for the streaming platform.
