The Tollywood box office had witnessed a lot of action this week as multiple new films arrived at the ticket counter. These films are Robinhood, Mad Square and L2E Empuraan.
Coming to the box office side of things, it could be understood that Mad Square is the real winner here. This film opened on a surprisingly good note at the Telugu ticket counters with substantial revenues.
Reportedly the film could collect ₹10 crore gross in the Telugu states on opening day. The most significant bump came from the Nizam region, which has topped the list of regional collections for the film.
Producer Naga Vamsi said confidently that this film would create a sensation at the box office this weekend. The early projection looks indicative of this now.
On the other hand, we have Robinhood. This Nithiin and Sree Leela film was promoted aggressively by the makers, but that did not reflect in the box office openings. The film started on a very slow note at the Telugu states and also United States.
The opening day collections have been very negligible as the film got a very slow start.
In direct comparison, Mad Square had collected $240K till now while Robinhood confined to $40K.
It appears that postponing the release from last December to this March, end depleted the buzz and whatever hype there was on Robinhood. This could be one logical reason behind the slow start.
Lastly, we have Empuraan and it is a non starter at the Telugu box office. The film failed to generate any sort of revenues in the Telugu states while it was able to punch above its weight in Malayalam and overseas. Had the word of mouth been positive, this sequel could have created a sensation at the box office.
