Rashmika Mandanna’s confidence in handling criticism over her South Indian accent has impressed veteran actress Madhoo. What makes her praise interesting is that Madhoo herself spent decades worrying about the same thing when she began working in Hindi cinema.
In a video shared as part of her I Am in Love series, Madhoo recalled how she feared being judged for being South Indian. She worked hard to improve her Hindi and even tried to learn Urdu because she did not want people to notice her accent. Any comment about her pronunciation would leave her flustered.
Madhoo said it took her 30 to 35 years to become comfortable with her identity. Today, she is proud of her roots and no longer feels the need to hide her accent.
That is what she admires about Rashmika. During her appearance on Koffee with Karan, Rashmika said there was nothing wrong with having a South Indian accent when she comes from the region.
What Madhoo struggled to accept for decades, Rashmika is embracing with confidence much earlier in her career. That difference makes Madhoo’s support more than just another celebrity backing a fellow actress.
