Mani Ratnam doesn’t back his wife

At a recent press meet actor Suhasini Mani Ratnam’s comments about film criticism has been slammed by everyone online. Addressing the media, she had said that only ‘qualified’ people should review movies and not anybody who knew to move a mouse on the computer screen. This received lot of flak from online media, especially bloggers and went viral.

When Mani Ratnam was asked about his wife’s statement, he said that it’s possible she didn’t mean the way her words are being interpreted. He as a filmmaker respects opinions and says since cinema is public art, people are free to comment and share feedback.

Giving a grounded response, he said that criticism will always be there but there’s a way to put it across. He said some people criticize to provoke a reaction and he’s against that culture that’s usually popular online. He also said if the criticism is genuine, it should be welcomed
