Mirai Hindi Day 1: Less Than HanuMan but Huge Scope

Teja Sajja‘s much-awaited Telugu action fantasy Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni, finally hit theatres on September 12. Released in multiple languages, the Hindi version is being distributed by Dharma Productions.

According to Pinkvilla Box Office, Mirai collected around ₹1.25 crore nett on day one in Hindi. While this is a modest start, it falls short when compared to Teja’s previous hit HanuMan, which opened to ₹2 crore nett in Hindi.

HanuMan saw a dramatic jump of nearly 100% over the weekend, ending with ₹11 crore in its opening three days. That kind of leap appears unlikely for Mirai, unless it sees a surprise breakout in the coming days.

Trade analysts believe one reason for the slow start is the title itself. While HanuMan had strong mythological appeal and instant recall among Hindi-speaking audiences, Mirai lacks that familiarity or devotional connect.

Despite promotions, Mirai couldn’t attract large footfalls on day one in the North. However, early word of mouth from Hindi audiences is mostly positive, and this could help the film grow steadily over the weekend.

As of now, trade experts project a Hindi lifetime collection of around ₹15 crore nett. While not huge, it’s still stronger than many recent Telugu “pan-India” releases that failed to connect with Northern audiences.

Globally, Mirai had an excellent opening, grossing ₹24 crore on day one across Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam versions. Of this, ₹13 crore came from the Telugu states alone.

With no major Hindi releases this weekend, Mirai has a window to pick up momentum. However, the challenge will come next Friday, when Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 3 hits theatres.

For now, all eyes are on whether Mirai can ride the positive buzz and cement another pan-India success for Teja Sajja.
