Tier-2 Race in 2026: Will Nani Dominate or VD Surprise?

The Tier 2 race in 2026 is shaping up to be an epic one for both Nani and Vijay Deverakonda. Interestingly, both actors are coming up with the highest budget films of their careers. This makes the comparison even more exciting. It is no longer just about star power, but about timing, risk taking, credibility, and execution.

Nani’s most ambitious project is The Paradise, directed by Srikanth Odela. Reportedly the costliest film in Nani’s career, it is also among the biggest projects in the Tier 2 segment. Financially, this is a bold move. Nani has delivered consistent box office performers over the years, but he has not yet scored a massive 300 crore blockbuster. From that perspective, investing such a large budget is a massive risk. However, consistency is his biggest strength. After the gritty Dasara, the Nani and Odela combination carries credibility and audience trust.

At the same time, Nani is collaborating with Sujeeth for Bloody Romeo, a gangster drama where he plays a chef with a hidden violent side. This is the first time Nani is exploring a full-fledged gangster role. Sujeeth has already proved that he is technically strong. His films show scale and visual style. However, his screenplay writing has often been weak, as seen in Saaho and OG.

This time, the situation is different. Nani is the hero and also one of the producers of the film. He is known to be highly supportive of his directors, which is a huge plus for Sujeeth. He gives creative freedom and stands by his team unconditionally. If all the elements, writing, execution, and performance, come together properly, Sujeeth has a strong chance to deliver something exciting. If Sujeeth fails this time, it could be seen as a missed opportunity and possibly the biggest trust and chance he has received so far.

On the other hand, Vijay Deverakonda’s 2026 lineup feels like a redemption arc. After back to back disasters, he is banking heavily on Ranabaali, directed by Rahul Sankrityan. Set in pre Independence Rayalaseema, it is a serious and violent period action drama inspired by real events. Vijay’s intense and rugged look has generated curiosity, but overall hype still remains average.

He is also working on Rowdy Janardhana, directed by Ravi Kiran Kola and produced by Dil Raju. This is positioned as a mass action film designed to revive Vijay’s Rowdy image. However, the announcement video has received mixed reactions. Vijay’s talent and screen presence are not in question, but he needs a solid, content driven success to rebuild audience trust.

In comparison, Nani enters 2026 with stable goodwill and consistency, while Vijay enters with desperation and higher pressure. If execution matches ambition, Nani may consolidate his position strongly. But if content clicks perfectly for Vijay Deverakonda, especially with Ranabaali, a surprise comeback cannot be ruled out.
