New classification in the Southern Film industry!

Several changes occur in the film industry from time to time and some are accepted, some are not. One such change has been recommended by the committee of Justice Mukul Mudgal who want to classify all the movies into different categories in a new way which is highly prevalent in other countries. However, almost the entire industry is against it.

The current way of classification given by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) is as follows. A ‘U’ certificate is given for unrestricted exhibition, ‘U/A’ is for unrestricted public exhibition subject to parental guidance for children below the age of 12 and `A’ restricted to adult audiences. ‘S’ restricted to specialized audiences such as doctors and scientists.

The suggested version will include age-wise classification of movies and several members of the industry are against it. Kodali Venkateshwar Rao, honorary secretary of Telugu Film Producers Council said that there might be practical difficulties with the new way of classification.
