
Ever since SS Rajamouli’s RRR happened, the Mega and Nandamuri fandoms have been vertically split. Especially after RRR, the rivalry between the two groups has escalated to a new level. Mega fans and NTR fans abuse each other day in and day out on social media, fighting over who is the bigger star, who is the more talented performer, and who has greater box office potential. The filthy wars continue like there is no tomorrow.
Ironically, if we look at the pan-India stardom dynamics, Prabhas holds the crown, followed by Allu Arjun, while both Ram Charan and NTR are still trying hard to establish themselves in Bollywood. But their debuts haven’t gone well. Ram Charan’s first Hindi film Zanjeer (2013) was a disaster, and now NTR’s War 2 is heading toward the same fate. Coincidentally, both heroes are destined to deliver outright disasters with their Bollywood debuts. Ram Charan’s pan-India project Game Changer bombed badly, and NTR too faced his first major failure in years with War 2.
However, both stars still have promising projects ahead. NTR has Dragon with the much-happening director Prashanth Neel, while Ram Charan is working on Peddi, a rooted film with a strong backdrop. These films carry big expectations. What remains to be seen is whether NTR and Ram Charan can finally convince northern audiences with their box office pull and, more importantly, with the ‘content’ choices they make from here on.
