Parking Lots minting money in Hyderabad!

The lack of proper parking places is haunting the Hyderabad City for a long time. GHMC made very fewer arrangements in the city for the parking lots but they are outsourced to private contractors. The contractors are turning in to leeches and squeezing money from people. It is said that the most Parking lots in Hyderabad make between Rs 6,000 and Rs 50,000 per day, depending on their size.

GHMC do not have any hand in deciding the charges and in most cases they are decided by pure market dynamics. Usually the approved rates are Rs. 10 for a two wheeler and 20 Rupees for a four wheeler but the contractors often float rules and fleece people of higher amounts basing on demand. Also all the parking slots charge for a minimum one hour but majority of vehicles stay only for 15-20 minutes.

If someone goes shopping at three to four different locations on a single day, the parking costs can go up to Rs 150 and if they park the vehicles in other places than the parking lots, there is always a camera of Traffic Police haunting them to throw a challan. Citizens demand GHMC to prescribe rates for parking and rein the private contractors. The corporation even advised of maintaining the parking lots through its employees instead of outsourcing them.
