There were already signals with few films performing better in the US compared to Ceded, but after Agnyaathavaasi, it might become normality for all big movies going forward. First of all, the rights for the US are higher than Ceded and now the way it is getting released in screens higher than Nizam it is leaving Ceded far behind. There is also the GST issue that is coming into effect.
Agnayaathavaasi’s release is sure to be emulated by all other biggies starting from 2018, and just like that, the business talk in the US will move to the percentage of occupancy rather than housefuls. It has been a trend till now to add shows based on the response at particular locations and look at averages per screen. It will be a thing of past, post-Agnyaathavaasi. The higher the occupancy, the bigger the number as simple as that just like any other territory in Telugu states. New factors will come in to determine the totals.
The only thing that needs to be looked into is how big a regular commercial can become with hit talk. How much can it collect? Will Agnyaathavaasi provide an answer to that? We have to wait and see. So far, all the indications are positive towards a right film for the US on cards.
