Jana Nayagan Scene Repeat? Peddi Under Netflix Pressure

Ram Charan’s much awaited sports drama Peddi, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, is once again in the news, but this time for reasons beyond just release delays.

The film, which has generated strong buzz, was initially expected to release on March 27 but got postponed. The makers later announced April 30 as the new release date. However, ongoing rumors suggest that even this date may not be feasible due to pending work.

Now, a new twist has emerged involving its OTT deal. The film has reportedly been acquired by streaming giant Netflix for a huge amount. According to industry talk, Netflix is keen on ensuring that the film sticks to its committed schedule, as repeated delays could disrupt its content calendar.

There is increasing speculation that the platform wants the makers to release the film on April 30 as planned, so that the premiere on Netflix can happen after four weeks on May 28, as is the usual norm. Since the project has already missed one earlier timeline, a second delay could potentially impact the terms of the deal, including financial adjustments or renegotiations. Recently, Amazon Prime Video cancelled Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan’s OTT deal as the makers failed to meet the release schedule multiple times.

This situation puts additional pressure on the production team. On one hand, they need to ensure the film meets quality expectations. On the other, they must consider contractual and scheduling commitments tied to the Netflix release.

With pending elements like song shoots and post-production still in progress, it remains to be seen whether the team can realistically meet the April 30 deadline or opt for a safer later release, even if they have to lose out or compromise on the OTT deal.

Fans feel that the makers should concentrate on delivering a quality output rather than releasing a half-baked film just because of the fear of losing out on a lucrative OTT deal. A good film will always have many OTT takers.

At this stage, Peddi is not just dealing with internal delays but also external pressures, making its release strategy more complicated than expected.
