Disaster Bookings: Star Hero Must Be Worried?

We have now arrived at a point where the Telugu audience are simply not stepping out to watch films in the theatres unless they promise something extraordinary with the trailer or come out with unanimous positive word of mouth.

This is particularly applicable in the case of Tamil star Surya’s upcoming film Veerabhadrudu. This is the Telugu dubbed version of Tamil film titled Karuppu and better things were expected of it earlier.

However, the advance bookings in the Telugu language are so very poor that the film has not even entered the hourly booking charts on BookMyShow. It is essentially selling less than 1000 tickets per hour at this point in time.

There was once a time when Surya was one of the most celebrated heroes in Telugu cinema, and perhaps even on or better than Tamil reception he was getting at that point. But consecutive failures and inadequate promotional stints have reduced his capacity largely.

This film has a reasonably big cast, including Surya himself and actress Trisha, and both of them have a decent following in Telugu. But that is not constituting for advance bookings in the Telugu states.

The campaign yesterday was a reasonably big one with the presence of Surya and Karthi. But it appears that Telugu audience are looking to wait out for the release, and they might step out only if the film gains a good word of mouth.
