‘Pulao’ for Jayalalitaa in Jail

There is a saying in Telugu, ‘Vaddinche vaadu manavaadaite…kada banthilo kurchunna kanipetti pedathaadu’, which literally means if the person who serves is our own, we are going to be served well even if we were the last ones in the dinner party. The same seems to be happening in the case of AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa after her conviction and custody in jail. On Sunday morning reportedly she was served pulao.

She is put up in Superintedent’s guest house which is in the jail premises. The guest house has air conditioning, television and access to phones even. Common man is questioning why this special treatment for a corrupt politician who is convicted by court. Nevertheless we know how system works in our country and the difference in treatment between a common man and a celebrity politician.

Meanwhile lawyers representing Jayalalithaa will move the Karnataka High Court on Monday for bail. But the bail plea may be taken up only on Tuesday when there is a scheduled hearing by a vacation bench because the high court will observe holidays from September 29 to August 6 for Dasara. A bunch of lawyers are working on strategies to provide temperory respite for the jailed AIADMK Supremo.
