Rajamouli Curse Joke Hits Prithviraj
Tollywood has a long-running joke about the so-called Rajamouli curse. The belief is that a star often struggles with the film that comes immediately after working with SS Rajamouli. NTR had disasters like Subbu, Andhrawala, and Kantri after films like Student No. 1, Simhadri, and Yamadonga. Prabhas had Pournami and Saaho after Chatrapathi and Baahubali. Ram Charan delivered disasters like Orange and Acharya after Magadheera and RRR.
Now, Mahesh Babu fans are already discussing the same curse ahead of Varanasi. But there is another hilarious version of the theory doing the rounds on social media.
Prithviraj Sukumaran plays the villain Kumbha in Varanasi. At the same time, some of his recent pan-India films, including Khalifa and Daayra, have flopped miserably at the box office. That has given social media users an opportunity to joke that Prithviraj is somehow experiencing the Rajamouli curse even before the Rajamouli film has released.
Obviously, this is nothing more than a social media joke. But the timing makes the joke work. Usually, the Rajamouli curse discussion starts only after a star’s next film fails. In Prithviraj’s case, fans are joking about it before Varanasi has even released.
The more interesting question is what Varanasi itself does for Prithviraj. Kumbha is expected to be an important character, and a strong performance could give him a real pan-India boost.
We have to see what kind of appreciation Kumbha brings him and what happens to his career after Varanasi.
