In an unexpected revelation, Ranbir Kapoor shared that he had initially rejected the role of Lord Rama in director Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious two-part Ramayana. The actor said he was unsure about taking up such a significant and respected character.

Speaking at a special IMAX teaser screening in Los Angeles, Ranbir recalled when producer Namit Malhotra approached him nearly four years ago. He said his immediate response was a clear no, as he felt unprepared for the role.

Ranbir admitted that he did not feel physically fit or skilled enough to portray Lord Rama, also known as Maryada Purushottam. He believed he needed more discipline and understanding to do justice to such a revered character.

The actor revealed that his perspective changed after becoming a father to daughter Raha in November 2022 with wife Alia Bhatt. He described this phase as a turning point that reshaped both his lifestyle and mindset.

Ranbir said fatherhood gave him clarity and a sense of responsibility. He explained that it helped him grow as a person and prepared him to take on a role that demands emotional depth and strong values.

With the first glimpse of the film set to release on April 2, 2026, the actor now sees the role as deeply personal. He believes his journey aligns with Lord Rama’s values of righteousness, compassion, and responsibility.
