Ranveer Singh faced strong backlash after he mimicked Rishab Shetty from Kantara: Chapter 1 and referred to the daivas as ghosts. Many users called the remarks insensitive. The trolling soon affected Dhurandhar’s advance bookings, which began on a weak note.
Ranveer Singh finally addressed the controversy at the IFFI 2025 event in Goa. He apologised publicly for his mimicry and comments. He later shared a note on Instagram, saying his intention was to praise Rishabh’s performance and that he admired the effort behind the role.
He added that he respects all cultures and traditions across the country. Ranveer apologised sincerely to anyone whose sentiments were hurt. His message was an attempt to calm the rising criticism.
A complaint was also filed against the actor by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti at the Panaji police station. They objected to his imitation and his comment calling the Chamundi Daiva a female ghost. This added further pressure on the actor.
Users online remained divided even after the apology. Many felt the apology came only because of the low advance bookings of Dhurandhar. Some also argued that Ranveer should not have praised Rishab Shetty, as the Kantara actor had earlier criticised Bollywood.
The debate continues across social media. Whether this apology will help Ranveer Singh ahead of Dhurandhar’s release is still uncertain. Some feel the film has already taken a hit due to his remarks.
