RC16: Only Negative Among Many Positives

Ram Charan’s next project, RC16, was launched amid a lot of fanfare yesterday. Many industry bigwigs attended the pooja ceremony.

The team working on the movie includes talented people who have won several awards and recognitions.

Chandrabose, the lyricist behind the Oscar blockbuster “Naatu Naatu” is on board. The cinematographer is R. Rathnavelu from “Rangasthalam,” the editor is Antony L. Ruben from “Jawan,” and the action scenes are choreographed by Supreme Sunder from “Animal.” Avinash Kolla from “Major” is the art director, and Deepali Noor from “Pushpa” is the costume designer.

RC16 will be directed by Buchi Babu Sana, whose debut film Uppena won the best Telugu-language film award at India’s National Film Awards.

But there is one weak link in RC 16 among all these stalwarts. He is also a winner of many national and international awards including the Oscars, but of late he has been out of form. Yes, we are talking about AR Rahman.

AR Rahman is one of the biggest brands when it comes to music and having his name in the list of technicians for any film is a matter of pride.

But for the last few years, he hasn’t delivered any memorable music albums. His BGM also has been very forgettable. His score for his last film Lal Salaam was completely dull and made that film even more unbearable.

He is right now lagging behind the likes of Anirudh when it comes to giving music that enthralls today’s audience. His track record in Telugu also isn’t great shakes.

Buchi Babu Sana’s last film Uppena had charbusting music and the same, if not better, would be expected from RC16 as well. AR Rahman has a task on his hands and he has to deliver big time.

This film is a big chance for Rahman as well to re-establish his brand and prove once again that he is not yet finished.
