RRR Gets OTT Release Strategy Right

The influence of early OTT releases is being high on theatrical releases these days. A good percentage of the audience are shying away from theaters to watch the film on OTT anyways. But then, Rajamouli‘s RRR seems to have got its OTT Release Strategy right.

RRR Hindi Version Presenter, Jayantilal Gada has spilled beans about it at the film’s trailer launch in Mumbai. “RRR will premiere on OTT 75 to 90 days after it’s release. We are confident that people would want to experience this in cinema halls for a long time. We won’t opt for a 30 day OTT premiere,” he said.

Anyways, a big screen spectacle like RRR will have theatrical audience. If Rajamouli can not pull audience to theaters, who can? Meanwhile, Zee5 has the rights to Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada languages while Netflix walks away with the Hindi rights.

Netflix further also bagged the Digital streaming rights of the movie for English, Portuguese, Korean, Turkish, and Spanish languages. RRR is releasing on January 7th, 2022 release in theaters. 75 – 90 days OTT release means March second half or April first week release.
