Telugu sci-fi action film Mirai, directed by Karthik Gattamneni and Anil Anand, has stunned audiences and Bollywood critics alike. Released on 5th September 2025, the film’s VFX and CGI work are being praised as world-class, despite a budget of just Rs 50 crore.
Audiences compared Mirai with Bollywood films costing Rs 500 crore, noting how the Telugu film achieved jaw-dropping visuals at a fraction of the cost. Critics suggest Bollywood filmmakers could learn from such efficient use of resources.
Trade analysts say only Rs 10–15 crore of Mirai’s budget went into VFX, yet editors and artists delivered high-quality results. In contrast, big-banner Bollywood films like WAR 2, Adipurush, and Brahmastra have struggled to innovate despite much larger budgets.
Bollywood VFX budgets often range from a few crores to Rs 4000 crore. For example, Kalki 2898 AD reportedly spent Rs 230 crore on VFX, while Baahubali’s VFX cost around Rs 85 crore. Upcoming projects like Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana are set to be India’s most expensive films, with massive sums dedicated to visual effects.
Mirai is also being praised for its engaging storyline, cultural depiction, and plot execution. The film proves that creativity and innovation matter more to audiences than an extravagant budget, showing how smart filmmaking can outperform big-ticket productions.
