Salaar: Risk Of Losses Exceeds Chances of Profits

Prabhas’ upcoming mega-budget film Salaar is scheduled for release on December 22nd. The makers are selling the theatrical rights, and it seems that the Telugu areas’ distribution rights have been finalized, with reports suggesting a staggering ₹175 crore deal.

However, the movie must gross around ₹300-325 crore in Telugu states throughout its run to ensure distributors can recover their investments with marginal profits.

This hefty investment is reminiscent of Prabhas’ last film, “Adipurush,” which, despite being sold for ₹115 crore in Telugu states, fell short of expectations by only grossing a ₹75+ crore share, resulting in losses.

“Salaar” faces a similar challenge, and unless it garners exceptional acclaim like “Baahubali,” recuperating such a substantial investment will be a daunting task. The stakes are high, with potential losses outweighing marginal profits for distributors.

Hombale Films, on the other hand, stands to earn around 500 crores just from the sale of theatrical rights. Once Prabhas and director Prashant Neel’s fees, production costs, and other expenses are factored in, the production company is also expected to make just modest profits and nothing exceptional.

Adiprurush’s worldwide gross was somewhere around 250 crores. For “Salaar” to be deemed a success, it must gross a bare minimum of ₹1000 crore worldwide, a figure that will put everyone in a satisfactory position.
