Samantha Breaks Norms: Taking Control On-Screen

It seems the roles for women in Hindi movies and shows are going through a massive change and audiences are excited for it.

Actresses are no longer wanting to star in passive, decoratory roles and they are claiming more power on screen.

Be it through movies like ‘Darlings’ or ‘Mimi’ or web series like ‘Heeramandi’, there are more women-centric roles being written in the industry and it is a very positive change.

Now the recent ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ has come and it has shown a strong example of how a female character should be written. The show is not entirely heroine-centric but it does allow Samantha’s character to have a powerful presence that is not overshadowed by Varun’s one.

The new stories are paving a way for a new industry where women are not choosing decoratory roles. But it might be a shock for many audiences and filmmakers as well. There are many storytellers who have not exploited the capabilities of actresses properly and are accustomed to a certain type of storytelling.

Women not choosing roles of love-interests or caretakers, will be a hard blow on them.
