Sardar 2 struggles after poor opening
Sardar 2 was expected to be a solid comeback opportunity for Karthi, especially after the success of the first part. But the sequel has opened to a brutal response.
Audience and film critics have largely rejected the spy action thriller, with several reviews giving it just one star. Some ratings are even lower than what many critics give to outright B-grade films.
The bigger problem is that the negative talk is already hitting the box office. Several shows of Sardar 2 have reportedly been cancelled at multiplexes across the Telugu states because of poor occupancy. This is a worrying sign on the opening day itself.
A Karthi film backed by a successful franchise should at least have enough initial interest to fill a reasonable number of shows. But Sardar 2 appears to be struggling even before the evening shows started on the first day itself.
The situation is even more serious because Sardar 2 is reportedly Karthi’s most expensive film so far. The film is already losing momentum because of the disastrous response.
Sardar 2 joins the list of sequel disasters like War 2 and Indian 2. A franchise name and star power can only take a film so far. Once the audience rejects the content, recovery becomes extremely difficult.
Sardar 2 is now facing a serious uphill battle. Negative reviews have already turned into poor occupancy, and cancelled shows on day one are a major warning sign.
What was expected to be Karthi’s comeback after three disasters in a row may now become one of his biggest disappointments.
