Karthi’s Sardar 2 is arriving in theatres on September 11, with Annapurna Studios releasing the film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. But even before the release, ticket pricing has started a debate among Telugu audiences.

The price difference is hard to ignore. A PVR ticket in Chennai is reportedly around Rs. 180 plus taxes, while the same PVR experience in Hyderabad is around Rs. 295 plus taxes. Naturally, audiences are asking why they have to pay much more for a dubbed film than viewers in its original Tamil market.

A similar debate happened around Toxic, when Hyderabad ticket prices were reportedly higher than those at some multiplexes in Bengaluru, even though Karnataka is its home market.

The bigger issue is how Telugu states are being treated as a premium market. Telugu audiences have always welcomed films from other industries. Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, and even foreign films can do strong business here when the content connects. That passion has made Telugu cinema audiences some of the strongest theatrical supporters in the country.

But that should not become a weakness.

People are not paying more because they are fools. They pay because they love watching good films on the big screen. The problem starts when distributors see that passion as a reason to take Telugu audiences for granted.

Ticket prices are already rising, while F&B costs inside multiplexes are also extremely high. For families, a theatre outing can quickly become an expensive affair. If this continues, more viewers may simply wait for OTT, especially when watching a dubbed film.

Sardar 2 may have its own pricing and demand factors. But the question from Telugu audiences is completely valid.

Why should a Telugu viewer automatically pay more for a dubbed film than someone watching the original version? Telugu audiences love cinema. That love should be respected, not treated as an easy way to charge more.
