Sing Geetham Needed A Whacky Mind Like Nag Ashwin: SSR

The admiration that ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli holds for veteran director Singeetham Srinivasa Rao has always been evident.

Over the years, Rajamouli has repeatedly acknowledged Singeetham’s influence on Indian cinema, praising his fearless experimentation and imaginative storytelling that inspired generations of filmmakers.

As part of the promotions for Sing Geetham, producer-director Nag Ashwin and music director Devi Sri Prasad interacted with Rajamouli through a special video conversation, where the trio shared their admiration for the legendary filmmaker and discussed the uniqueness of the project.

During the interaction, Rajamouli revealed an interesting anecdote. He recalled that his brother, MM Keeravani, had narrated the film’s core idea to him nearly three decades ago.

“I was completely spellbound when I first heard the concept. It was unlike anything I had encountered before. For a wonderfully whacky story like this, it needed someone with an equally whacky mind like Nag Ashwin to produce it,” Rajamouli remarked.

Nag Ashwin emphasized that the film was born primarily out of respect and admiration for Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. According to him, the project is a rare cinematic experiment that gradually immerses viewers in its world.

“It’s such a unique narrative that after the first ten minutes, audiences will stop noticing that the characters are singing and simply become invested in the story,” he explained.

Devi Sri Prasad revealed the unconventional approach adopted for the film’s music. He shared that the musical foundation of the project was created even before production began.

“This was a completely new experience for me. We composed the music long before the shoot started. In fact, I worked on nearly 100 to 200 tracks during the process,” DSP said.

In a gesture that delighted the team, Rajamouli also purchased the very first ticket of Sing Geetham.

The movie is set for its theatrical release tomorrow.
