Sumanth On Varahi & Murari Similarities

Sumanth’s devotional thriller Mahendragiri Varahi collected a gross of 1.20 Cr on its opening day, as revealed by the team during a post-release meet. They also spoke about the increase in footfalls on day 2.

For director Santossh Jagarlapudi, the response to the film’s twists has been a positive aspect. He revealed that he was initially unsure whether audiences would accept some of the unexpected turns in the story. However, he said he is satisfied with the response.

“The shocking elements definitely surprise the audiences. The story is inspired by the Mysore Maharaja dynasty. The confrontation between Siddhu and Sumanth has received a good response.”

Sumanth has also been encouraged by the response. The actor said appreciation has been coming from different sections of the audience. He acknowledged that the movie needed some time to gain momentum but said the growing collections have given the team reason to be happy.

The actor also addressed the comparison with Murari. “When I accepted the story, I knew there were some commonalities and similarities with Murari. However, this movie has been made as a devotional thriller, whereas Murari has a love story at its core. The story and treatment are totally different.”

According to Sumanth, the film’s twists were among the reasons he was interested in the project. He specifically mentioned the interval, pre-climax and climax. While he had wondered whether audiences would respond well to these portions, the current response has eased those concerns.

The actor now wants the promotional campaign to reach audiences at the grassroots level. With the film showing signs of growth and the screen count expanding, Sumanth believes Mahendragiri Varahi can connect with audiences in B and C centres and have a steady theatrical run.
