The summer of 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most crucial and competitive seasons for Tollywood. Big stars have finally locked strong release dates. Pawan Kalyan’s much awaited action entertainer Ustaad Bhagat Singh, scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 26, 2026. Directed by Harish Shankar, the film is currently in the final stages of post-production.
March 26 is being widely praised as a super smart release date, and for good reason. The film releases on a Thursday, immediately followed by Sri Ram Navami on Friday, then a full weekend, and then Good Friday the following week. This creates an uninterrupted festive and holiday window of nearly 8 to 9 days.
With schools closed for summer vacations and families free to step out, theatres are expected to witness packed houses. As the first major summer release of 2026, Ustaad Bhagat Singh enjoys a clear run, giving it the perfect ground to turn into a mass blockbuster. However, beyond dates and hype, the real test lies in content. The film needs strong emotional depth and enough fan pleasing high moments. Much depends on how Harish Shankar balances mass elements with decent storytelling.
There is another challenge in play. Audiences may have just watched two technically polished pan India films, Dhurandhar 2 and Toxic, a week earlier that could shift audience expectations. There is a possibility that Ustaad Bhagat Singh might feel slightly out of sync with evolving filmmaking standards. Adding to this, there will be no ticket price hikes in Telangana due to the High Court order. We have to see how it all plays out.
Adding to the summer fireworks is Ram Charan’s ambitious project Peddi, slated for April 30, 2026. This date is equally tactical, releasing on a Thursday followed by May Day on Friday and a full weekend. With four to five continuous holidays at the peak of summer, the stage is set for huge openings.
However, Peddi has much bigger ambitions in terms of reach and box office collections as compared to Ustaad. Peddi needs to collect a worldwide gross of more than Rs.400 crores for breakeven, according to trade experts. The film needs to do well not just in Telugu but also at a pan India level. After disasters like Acharya and Game Changer, Peddi is extremely crucial for Ram Charan to regain box office credibility. If executed well, it could also lay a foundation for Charan in the Hindi market.
With both babai Pawan Kalyan and abbai Ram Charan securing blockbuster potential dates, everything now boils down to execution and content. If both films deliver, the summer box office is set to shake.
Other notable Tollywood releases lined up include Biker on April 3, Dacoit and Swayambhu on April 10, The Paradise on June 25, and Vishwambhara on July 10. All these are tentative dates as of now.
