Suriya’s Scene US: $546K Day 1, Can It Reach Breakeven?

Suriya’s Scene is doing decent business in North America, but it needs a much bigger run to reach the breakeven mark of $1.7 million, according to trade experts.

After the huge business of Vishwanath and Sons, the film has managed to get a reasonable start. Its premiere and Day 1 collections stand at around $546K. The premieres contributed $236K, while Friday (Day 1) added another $310K.

These are not big numbers, but they are not disappointing either. A section of the audience has appreciated the film, and that could help it improve its collections over the weekend. However, the big question is whether this limited positive response can translate into the kind of box-office run needed to reach hit status.

The breakeven target is quite high compared to the opening. The film needs a big jump on Saturday, around $600K, to be in the race. Sunday also needs to be strong. However, the bookings are not on that level as of now.

A good weekend alone may not be enough. Scene will need to hold well during the weekdays and then post another strong second weekend to get closer to its $1.7 million breakeven target.

For now, the opening has given the film a decent start, but the real test begins over the next few days.
