Tamil cinema – top 3 grosser’s of 2013

Tamil cinema much like the Telugu films had a good year at the box office with many small and big films creating wonders at the box office. We look at the three highest grossing films on Tamil cinema in the year 2013.

Singham 2: This Suriya starrrer sequel to Singham ended the small dry run of the actor. The film opened with mixed talk however it sustained well and showcased the star power and command of Suriya over the family audience. In overseas it true to the stardom of Suriya it became the highest grossing Tamil film of the year. Overall it’s the biggest Tamil hit worldwide for the year 2013 and finds a place in all time top 5 next to Thuppakki.

Arrambam: Ultimate Star Ajith and director Vishnubardham bounced back after their respective failures with this commercial action entertainer. The film opened with two other films for Diwali in Tamil Nadu and garnered above average talk. However in spite of the talk Arrambam went on to become the Diwali winner and emerged as the biggest grosser for Ajith in both Tamil Nadu and Overseas.

Vishwaroopam: Kamal Haasan’s much in news film Vishwaroopam opened to great response after the ban was lifted. It got good reviews and vowed the city as well as overseas audience. It’s the biggest grossing Tamil movie this year in US. There are now tremendous expectations on the second part of the film thanks to the wonderful performance of Vishwaroopam despite the controversy.

An interesting point to note here is that all these three films are biggest hits in the respective hero’s careers.
