T'gana has to give power to take power from AP

Power is one contentious issue between both the Telugu states since the state bifurcation. According to the AP reorganization Act, Telangana is getting 53.89 per cent and AP 46.11 per cent power generated by all the plants located in two states. Similarly the assets and liabilities were distributed in the ratio of 58:42 between AP and Telangana.

AP felt the division unjust and cancelled the unapproved PPAs after the bifurcation. This means, Telangana would not get share in 1,600 MW Krishnapatnam and 1,054 MW Hinduja power plants. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is working on the tussles plaguing both the states.

The CEA is preparing a draft notification on power sharing and power purchase agreements that will be sent to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments for their comments and later the final decision will be announced. Telangana government if wants power from both the projects, will have to share power to AP from Singareni thermal project in Adilabad and Pulichintala hydel project in Nalgonda district which are under construction.
