Tollywood’s Fake PR Bubble Is Bursting

Tollywood is going through a real crisis right now. The biggest and most obvious reason is simple: the industry is failing to consistently produce films that genuinely excite audiences and bring them to theaters.

But there is another major problem that has become rampant over the last year: excessive fake PR and paid hype.

A few years ago, things were very different. When a teaser or trailer released, websites and social media pages used to discuss genuine feedback. If a teaser was weak, they said it was weak. If the buzz was low, they reported low buzz. If something worked well, they appreciated it honestly. There was at least some space for real criticism and real audience response.

Now, almost all of that has disappeared.

Today, everything is projected as a “blockbuster response,” “record-breaking trend,” or “sensational feedback.” Social media is filled with artificial hype. Many tweets are paid. Instagram reactions are manufactured. Even YouTube comments are fake and purchased.

The biggest danger of this fake PR culture is that real feedback is no longer reaching producers, directors, or actors. They are trapped inside an illusion where everything appears positive online. By the time reality hits, usually when theaters open empty for morning shows, it is already too late.

Until last year, few producers like Naga Vamsi publicly blamed reviews and media websites for the downfall of films. But even many of them have now gone silent because they slowly realized the core issue is not reviews. The real issue is weak content and the inability to understand audience pulse.

Now the situation has become even worse. With fake PR dominating every platform, nobody knows what is real anymore. Producers are becoming clueless. Actors are living in false hope. Genuine audience opinion is getting buried under paid and fake narratives and artificial trends.

This is one of the biggest reasons behind the current Tollywood crisis. Without honest feedback, no industry can improve. No filmmaker can correct mistakes if every response around them is manipulated and fake.

That is exactly where Tollywood stands today.

Tollywood lost in its own manufactured illusion.
