To escape being teased and mocked at for his improper Telugu, this dapper guy of Tollywood told his college mates that he hails from Mangaluru and his mother tongue is Tulu. How did he get that connection to Tulu and Mangaluru?Vijay has got to know that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan hails from Mangaluru and her mother tongue is Tulu.

So, he used that information and saved himself from being ridiculed in the college. Why was his Telugu bad, when he was in college? Vijay studied in a boarding school where they used to converse in English. Anyway, we are happy that he improved his Telugu and in fact, mastered the Telangana slang naturally because it happens to be his mother tongue.
