8 Weeks OTT in Tollywood? Big Meeting Today!

For quite some time, theatre distributors in Telugu cinema have been demanding longer gaps between theatrical and OTT releases. They believe that extending OTT timelines will help bring audiences back to theatres and strengthen box office performance.

Currently, many films are arriving on OTT platforms within four weeks of their theatrical release. Distributors argue that such short gaps discourage audiences from visiting theatres. Because of this, they have been requesting a delay of at least six to eight weeks.

Now, there appears to be some movement on this issue within the industry. Reports suggest that the film industry recently held an important meeting to discuss OTT release timelines.

A special committee headed by Suresh Babu conducted a meeting at the Film Chamber to review the situation. The committee discussed possible ways to regulate OTT release schedules.

According to reports, one of the key proposals was to introduce a strict six to eight week window before a film can arrive on OTT platforms. This rule could apply to films that begin production from now onward.

However, this idea is still in the discussion stage. No final decision has been announced so far. Industry stakeholders are continuing to evaluate the proposal carefully.
