No Relief At HC: Star Hero To Pay 1.5 Cr Fine!

Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay has suffered a legal setback at the Madras High Court. His written petition was dismissed, bringing him back into the news. The matter has drawn strong attention across media circles.

According to reports, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy rejected the writ petition. The petition was filed in 2022 by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Thalapathy Vijay. It challenged a penalty imposed by the Income Tax department.

The Income Tax department had earlier penalised Vijay for not voluntarily disclosing additional income of ₹15 crore. This income was linked to his film Puli. The amount came to light only after a search and seizure operation in September 2015.

Vijay later approached the Madras High Court seeking relief from the penalty. However, the Court did not rule in his favour. As things stand, he may now have to pay the ₹1.5 crore fine.

This comes at a time when Vijay is already facing legal delays. His Jana Nayagan censor issue is also moving slowly through the courts. Overall, it appears to be a challenging phase for the star on the legal front.
