Thaman – Ramajogayya: All Okay, Or Just Fun Banter?

For Thaman, “garu” apparently comes with a warning sign. The composer jokingly revealed that Ramajogayya Sastry uses the formal word with him only when he has a grudge against him or when the lyrics are not audible. That cheeky explanation has turned a simple “garu” into the punchline of their latest interaction.

The exchange happened during the launch event of the “Narayanamma” song from Aadarsha Kutumbam, where Thaman and Ramajogayya Sastry were present together. Reacting to Ramajogayya addressing him as “garu”, Thaman quipped, “Why garu, why ‘garlu’ for us?” He then added that the lyricist uses “garu” with him only in those two situations. The remark was delivered in a playful tone, making it sound less like a complaint and more like an inside joke between two people who know each other well.

Given their long association, the exchange comes across as friendly banter rather than a serious disagreement. There is no clear indication from this interaction of any fallout between the composer and lyricist. Instead, Thaman appears to be pulling Ramajogayya’s leg over a word he clearly associates with very specific situations.
