5 Sure-Shot Blockbusters: Thaman Adding Pressure on Akhil?

Thaman speaks about upcoming blockbuster films

Music director Thaman once again grabbed attention at a recent event with a series of bold predictions about his upcoming films, declaring that an exciting phase is about to begin for Telugu cinema.

The composer expressed tremendous confidence in his current lineup, claiming that several of the films he is working on have the potential to become huge box-office successes.

He reserved special praise for Akhil Akkineni’s Lenin, describing it as a potential career-defining blockbuster. Lenin is a make-or-break project for Akhil after a string of disasters. Industry circles have already been discussing the film’s strong climax and positive internal reports, and Thaman’s confidence has added further fuel to the growing expectations. It remains to be seen whether audiences will take Thaman’s words seriously and whether Lenin, which currently has limited buzz, will receive a hype boost.

He was equally bullish about Venkatesh and Trivikram’s Adarsha Kutumbam AK47, saying the film contains so much entertainment that audiences may be surprised by how long it might run in theatres.

Another project that received a major hype boost was Mega158, the upcoming collaboration between Chiranjeevi and Bobby. Thaman described the film as “next level.”

In perhaps his boldest statement, Thaman declared that all five films in his lineup, Itlu Arjuna, Lenin, AK47, Mega158, and NBK111, have blockbuster potential.

The confidence is classic Thaman. Over the years, the composer has rarely been shy about hyping his projects publicly. Sometimes those predictions have proven accurate, while at other times the audience verdict has been very different.

In recent years, Telugu cinema has seen a growing trend of insiders, directors, heroes, and technicians heavily hyping films before release. Climaxes have been described as extraordinary, scripts as sensational, and films as guaranteed blockbusters, only for audiences to emerge disappointed when the final product failed to match expectations. Peddi, Devara, Raja Saab, and several other films witnessed pre-release hype backfiring.

As a result, many moviegoers have become increasingly skeptical of pre-release claims, especially those coming from Thaman.

That does not mean Thaman is wrong. He is one of the few people who has heard the scripts, seen portions of the films, and worked closely on them. His enthusiasm may well be genuine. But history suggests that confidence alone is not a reliable indicator of success.

Ultimately, the fate of Lenin, AK47, Mega158, Itlu Arjuna, and NBK111 will be decided not by industry predictions but by audiences. Until then, Thaman’s comments remain exactly what they are: bold promises that have raised expectations and put even more pressure on the films to deliver.
