Thaman’s Hook Step Excuse Should Not Be Allowed

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Music Director Thaman is saying that Game Changer songs were letdown by lack of hook steps that are vital to take a song to next level.

“None of the songs had a hook step that could be recreated. You see, getting a 25 million view count or a 50 million view count is easy for composers of a particular stature. After that, reels come into play, and that is where Game Changer failed,” said Thaman.

“The responsibility lies both on the dance master and the hero. If the dance steps are good, the cinematographer will capture it neatly. This is the aspect where Game Changer faltered. People didn’t connect much to the songs due to lack of hook steps,” he added.

Naturally, Mega fans are upset because they think Thaman is just trying to shift the blame on the Hero who invested three years after RRR.

Keeping that aside, the industry is abuzz with this topic. Several producers, directors, and heroes who worked with Thaman are having a different opinion on this.

One of the most popular songs in Thaman’s career is Samajavargamana from Ala Vaikuntapuramlo.

That is definitely not too old. The song was one of last shot items in the film.

The audio was released well in advance and the song clocked about 70 Million Views by that time it was shot.

By that time, its visuals were seen, it was over 100 Million Views.

Reels and Hook Steps definitely help. They compliment the reach of a song but it is the songs that should have the Dum!

Music Composers like Thaman should concentrate on giving songs with that Dum!

Music is Saraswati for a composer. They should adore it and if they come up with excuses like this, it is just insulting their work.

Samajavaragamana is Thaman’s own song and so, there can not be a better example.

The other day, we have seen Siddhu Jonnalagadda concurring with the view of Thaman.

This is a wrong precedent for sure. Be it Thaman or Siddhu or anyone for that matter, delivering a chartbuster song should be the first priority and the rest are Add-Ons.

If this explanation is accepted, tomorrow we will see music composers delivering half-hearted content and then, say their job is done and it is up to the choreographer and heroes.

Game Changer is a failure but many people failed the film at all levels. Everyone involved should man up and must not push the blame on the others.
