The Paradise Has No Trailer. Confidence or Overconfidence?

Nani’s The Paradise is heading for its September 24 release without a trailer. Director Srikanth Odela has confirmed that there will be no trailer, with the team currently caught up in hectic post-production work.

But Odela has also given another reason that makes this decision interesting. He feels that The Paradise does not really need a trailer.

That raises a simple question. Is this confidence or overconfidence?

The hectic schedule is understandable. The film has been working against time, and the team is busy getting the final work ready for the September 24 release. The makers have already had to deal with speculation about delays before reaffirming the release date.

But the director’s belief that the film does not need a trailer is a different matter.

A trailer is important for any theatrical film. A teaser creates curiosity, but a trailer gives the audience a proper glimpse of what they are going to experience on the big screen. It can establish the world, introduce the characters, show the conflict and give an idea about the scale without giving away the entire story.

The Paradise already has strong curiosity around Nani and Srikanth Odela after Dasara. The teaser has also shown Nani in a raw and intense avatar and given a glimpse of the dark world of the film.

But will that be enough to carry the film until release?

Odela clearly has tremendous confidence in what he has made. He may genuinely believe that another promotional cut is unnecessary and that the audience should discover the film directly in theatres.

That confidence can become a strength if the content lives up to the hype.

At the same time, skipping a trailer means giving up one of the biggest opportunities to build theatrical excitement before release. The post-production pressure explains why the team is not doing one. But saying the film does not need one puts the decision in a completely different light.

If The Paradise delivers, Odela’s decision will look like the confidence of a filmmaker who knew exactly what he was doing.

If the film fails to generate the expected theatrical pull, the same decision could be questioned as overconfidence.

For now, Srikanth Odela is asking the audience to trust the film without showing them a trailer. September 24 will decide whether that confidence was justified.
