Ravi Teja took the box office by storm in August. Irumudi came without the huge expectations usually attached to a star hero event film. Yet, the medium-budget movie, with its grounded emotions and honest filmmaking, turned into a super blockbuster. Its success once again showed that strong audience connection can beat scale and hype.
Now, all eyes are on September’s biggest release. Nani’s The Paradise has entered the final stretch, with just 22 days left before its September 24 theatrical release.
Unlike Irumudi, The Paradise is being projected as a big pan-India film. Naturally, the expectations are much higher. The recent teaser of The Paradise received a mixed response. This has raised questions about whether director Srikanth Odela has found the right balance between violence, emotion, and commercial entertainment.
The Paradise is also a gangster action drama with a violent backdrop. After the shocking debacle of Yash’s Toxic, there is already some discussion about whether audiences are getting tired of extremely violent, abusive, adults-only gangster films. Toxic also created a huge gangster world, but the content failed to connect with audiences, and the film collapsed after a strong opening.
At the same time, The Paradise has huge curiosity around Nani and Odela coming together again after Dasara. The songs have already become chartbusters. The makers are also planning special premieres in India and overseas. If the film connects with audiences, those premieres could give it a strong early boost.
But there is one major problem now: time.
Some important scenes involving key characters are reportedly still pending, and Srikanth Odela is said to be working hard to complete the remaining shoot. The bigger race begins after that.
The film still needs the final edit, sound work, VFX, and, most importantly, Anirudh’s background score. For a film built around action, atmosphere, and hero elevations, the BGM can play a major role. The film also needs strong promotions, especially in the North, if Nani is aiming for pan-India glory.
So, The Paradise is entering September with both huge hype and some real doubts.
Irumudi has shown that audiences will embrace strong emotions and fresh storytelling without massive scale. Toxic has shown that a big star and a huge gangster world are not enough.
With only 22 days left, there is very little room for Srikanth Odela to make mistakes.
