The Paradise has opened to a superb response in North America, turning its massive pre-release hype into one of Nani’s biggest overseas openings. The film has collected approximately $1.63 million from US premieres plus Day 1, giving Nani the biggest opening of his career by a huge margin.
Excluding Day 1, The Paradise has collected around $1.42 million from the US premieres alone.
The film now has the second-highest premiere + Day 1 total among Telugu films this year in the US. Ram Charan’s Peddi tops the list at $1,932,881 for its premiere + Day 1.
The Paradise advance bookings had already shown that curiosity was huge, and the opening has now backed up that hype.
For Nani, this is clearly a new benchmark in the US market. His previous films had already established him as a strong overseas performer, but The Paradise has pushed his opening numbers to another level. It shows that his market can support a much bigger theatrical scale when a film generates the right kind of curiosity.
However, repeating this number will be the real challenge. The Paradise came with unusually high anticipation and massive advance sales. Nani’s upcoming films will have to create their own momentum rather than simply depend on the benchmark set by this film.
The weekend bookings are currently decent despite mixed reviews. After such a huge start, the focus now shifts from the opening to the hold. It will be interesting to see how far The Paradise will go in the US market.
