Affordable Ticket Prices Still Not So Affordable!

This Friday, close to half a dozen small-budget films are hitting the silver screens to attract audiences. Ram Gopal Varma’s Konda, Kiran Abbavaram’s Sammathame, Puri Jagannadh’s son Akash Puri’s Chor Bazaar, and senior filmmaker MS Raju’s 7 Days 6 Nights are among the notable films.

As per the trade reports, the ticket prices, which were over the top a couple of months ago, have been slashed to half. Thanks to the initiative by Adivi Sesh during the release of Major, the ticket rates since then for all medium-range films have been fixed at Rs 150 for single screens and Rs 200 from Multiplexes in Hyderabad.

Though the ticket rates are reduced, considering the market value for the above films, even these ticket rates are high for the normal movie-going audience. The majority opinion is that the ticket rates for small and mid-range films should be around Rs 100 for single screens and Rs. 150 in Multiplexes.

But the trade experts say that the distribution chain is not accepting anything less than the fixed prices. Some of the producers are asking to decrease the rates further so that the movies can attract more footfall, but the distributors/exhibitors are turning a blind eye.

It will be no wonder if the above-mentioned films fail to even take a decent opening.
