Tollywood’s release calendar is getting a little messy. As per the buzz, around four films that recently announced their release dates are now looking to back off from those dates.
The dates were announced only recently, but the situation seems to have changed. Teams are now said to be checking other release windows instead of going ahead with the dates they had locked.
The September and October calendar is already packed, especially with several films targeting the Dasara season. With so many releases competing for limited dates, even one change can have a domino effect on the others.
There is also a question over the way release dates are being announced. In some cases, the date comes out before the film is completely ready, and the team later has to rethink the plan because of shooting, post-production or competition from other films.
For now, the postponement talk around these four films is not official. But if all of them eventually move, it will once again raise questions about how firmly release dates are actually being planned in Tollywood.
The industry may need to get more clarity before announcing dates, rather than announcing first and figuring out the calendar later.
