Top Star Becoming OTT Star

In an interesting development of sorts, another one of Dhanush’s films is going the OTT way. His upcoming film, Maaran is set to skip theatrical release and premiere directly on Disney+ Hotstar.

Disney+ Hotstar has apparently paid big bucks for the direct to digital rights of Maaran and the OTT release date will be announced shortly.

“A man who follows the Gandhian path of non-violence is forced to resort to violence when he fails to get justice from the judicial system,” Maaran’s plotline reads.

Maaran is directed by A Jawahar. It is Disney+ Hotstar’s next big direct to OTT release after Bhoomi. The platform hopes to expand its viewer base in Tamil Nadu with the Dhanush starrer.

Dhanush’s previous film, Jagame Thandhiram had also premiered directly on OTT. The film is streaming on Netflix. With consecutive OTT releases, Dhanush seems to be emerging as the OTT star down South.

During the time of Jagame Thandhiram’s OTT release, Dhanush was in the firing line as film exhibitors in Tamil Nadu were furious with his decision to go for direct to OTT release. But he seems not too bothered about the same as his next film is also up for direct to OTT release.
