Top 3 Disappointments of 2025, Telugu Cinema

Every year has its share of box office misses, but 2025 felt particularly heartbreaking for Telugu cinema because the disappointments came from projects that looked unbeatable on paper.

Big stars, big budgets, and celebrated directors promised landmark films. What audiences got instead were reminders that scale and hype cannot compensate for weak writing and tired execution.

1. War 2

A film that should have been electric purely because of the pairing of Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR. For NTR, stepping into the YRF spy universe was a bold and sensible move. Unfortunately, the film wastes that potential at almost every level. His character feels generic, poorly written, and emotionally hollow. There is no arc that lingers and no defining moment that justifies the collaboration. Even the action, which was supposed to be the franchise’s biggest strength, feels repetitive and oddly lifeless. Scenes that should crackle with tension remain flat, and interactions between the two leads never rise above surface level exchanges. What should have been a landmark North South pan India crossover ends up as a sterile, template driven exercise and a clear wasted opportunity.

2. Game Changer

Starring Ram Charan and directed by Shankar, the film collapses under its own weight. An overlong runtime, weak screenplay, outdated ideas, and clumsy editing drain any momentum it tries to build. Despite a massive budget and star power, the film feels strangely directionless. Poor music, illogical plotting, and uninspired performances result in a project that not only failed creatively but also delivered a devastating financial blow to its producers.

3. Kingdom

Starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri. While Deverakonda puts in an earnest effort, the film offers him little support. The writing is basic, the political drama lacks depth, and the emotional core never lands. Controversies aside, the bigger issue is the absence of soul. The film feels dull, stretched, and creatively exhausted, following an outdated formula without attempting freshness.

Together, these films define 2025 not just as a year of failures, but as a year of missed chances, where ambition existed, but conviction and craft did not.
