Every year, many new directors make their debut, but only a few manage to truly impress. This year, however, a good number of new directors stood out and gave the industry fresh hope.

The biggest surprise of the year came from Little Hearts; a film made on a modest budget of approximately Rs. 3 crore that went on to collect nearly Rs. 30 crores. The film’s phenomenal success instantly put its young director, Sai Marthand, in the spotlight. Major producers reportedly paid him advances, and veteran actor Jagapathi Babu was so impressed that he offered to produce Sai’s next project. Industry buzz also suggests that Sai has already narrated a story to Nithiin, who responded positively.
2. Court – Director: Ram Jagadeesh
Another impressive debut came from Ram Jagadeesh, who directed Court under Nani’s banner. Strong promotions combined with solid content helped the film become one of the highest-grossing small films of the year. Among feel-good films, The Great Pre Wedding Show stood out for its simplicity and charm. Director Rahul Srinivas impressed with his ability to sustain a straightforward idea across an entire feature-length film. The success of this debut has opened doors for him to collaborate on new projects with young actors.
4. Kanyakumari – Director: Srujan Attada
A rural romantic drama made with sincere intent; Kanyakumari did not perform well theatrically but found appreciation after its release on OTT platforms. The film featured several strong moments, a well-written female lead, and thoughtfully explored themes of women’s independence and the challenges they continue to face even in the 21st century.
