Toxic leads recent box office losses

The film industry has delivered a lot of hits. But this does not mean that the losses have not been huge. The hottest entry on this list is Toxic, which was supposed to mark another comeback for Yash, four years after K.G.F. Chapter 2.

But the situation has turned out to be something else. The movie emerged as a disaster in the first week itself, despite the fact that it reportedly took an opening of Rs. 100 crores. The release of the English version in India also did not help due to limited shows and less interest among the audience.

As of now, the movie has suffered losses worth Rs. 300 crores in theatrical business. It has reached the top spot on the list. While it was initially believed that no movie would come close to the losses of War 2, Toxic surpassed those figures, as Ayan Mukerji’s movie brought losses worth Rs. 150 crores.

There is also Kanguva, which suffered losses of Rs. 135 crores, followed by Radhe Shyam with Rs. 125 crores and Game Changer with Rs. 120 crores. The ongoing situation of Toxic and other films has now raised concerns about the upcoming big movies and a re-evaluation of the pan-India concept.

Trade experts noted that while it is not wrong to release a film in multiple languages, the producers have forgotten that they need scripts and subjects that will appeal to the audiences of all languages.

Netizens also agreed on social media, addressing the fact that Toxic’s story and screenplay were so confusing that they could be understood only by a particular section of the audience. But since the majority have rejected the idea, including the Kannada audience, it proves that better scriptwriters are needed now.

On the other hand, trade experts are now worried about two more big films scheduled for release this year – Ramayana and King. Although they are confident about Ramayana, most of them are advising Shah Rukh Khan to shift the release date of King, as it will arrive a few days after Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to take a big opening in India.

Netizens wrote that SRK should not take a big risk at this stage of his career and that a solo release without a crowded month is going to prove beneficial for him.

But this does not mean that Ramayana is out of danger. Social media has frequently pointed out that three main leads from the film, which include Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, and Yash, have delivered flops. They also stated that the records of their last movies are somehow expected to impact the collections of Ramayana.

As of now, nothing much can be said until the advance booking opens and the word-of-mouth is positive about the content. Let’s wait and see if any more losses will happen in the theatrical business or if things will slowly go back to normal.
